    Hi guys,

I've just ordered a new Disco 4 with an Active Rear Diff Lock. The salesman recons I don't really need one. In his opinion it makes no difference.

I'm using the Disco for work so I use if off road quite alot. I also plan to take it on mini expeditions.

The question is: Does the Active Rear Diff Lock make any difference on a Disco 4 or is it money down the pan? Any advice is welcome.

    Cheers

  2. Don't know about a D4 but it would certantly make a difference on D1 & D2s.
If I was to buy a new RRS I will take up that option why wouldn't you.
  3. Trewey

    Trewey Cockernee, Pasty munchin bastid.

Traction control does render it somewhat superfluous.
  4. What i've seen of T/C last winter and in the snow it's hopeless, I pulled up alonge side a RRS on a hill with his T/C activating but the RRS didn't move, I asked if he wanted assistance but he declined so I just pressed the pedal and drove off up the hill.. no problem. Disco one 1 RRS 0 :D

that was no doubt down to tyres, not TC.
my 110 with TC is awesome.
  6. Traction control is very good and with an active locking rear diff it is even better. Regards Jonathan
  7. I would argue that a locking diff would make TC superfluous... in many situations TC reacts too late, i.e. after momentum has already been lost.
  8. I've driven a D4 with the active rear diff in decent offroad conditions.

With TC you have to start reving to get the system to realise something is wrong and react, whereas the active diff locks in with no fuss, all you see is the light on the screen light to say its on and away you go. We put two side by side through the same section one with one without the active diff, the one with made it a lot quieter and with much less fuss, the one without made it fine but more fuss and noise.

  9. Hi,

Back on this topic. What is exactly the "active diff lock" on Disco 4? Is it something that allows you to block it when you want an not hen the car wants? Or is just a rear diff lock? This would means that the Disco 4 terrain select use only the central diff lock in combination with the electronic traction control. Hence the rear diff is always open and rear spinning just controlled by ETC????

    Am I right?

    Nic

Actual locking diff, and they do work well off road, saves farting about with TC wheelspin
